Emma Parson has been named the Australian Graduate of the Year for Interior design and decoration, in the Design Institute of Australia’s (DIA) Australian Graduate Of The Year Award (AGOTYA) program .
Emma, who graduated from Sydney TAFE Design Centre Enmore in 2013, picked up first place in the NSW GOTYA awards earlier in the year and her work was then judged against design graduates from around Australia and NZ.
The awards were announced at DesignEx, Australia's leading interiors, design ideas and architecture event at Glebe Island Sydney where a team of DCE interior design students also helped set up the Design Institute of Australia’s INTERWOVEN exhibition stand.
Over two days the students, as part of their materials technology class, worked with the DIA’s textile practice group and the INTERWOVEN curatorial team to create the canopy for the exhibition stand and complete placement of the works and materials for the exhibition.
It was a great opportunity for the students to develop some hands-on experience with exhibition design and curatorial practice, build their resume, learn about planning and managing events and make new contacts in the local design industry.
They also attended the VIP industry opening of the exhibition which was curated by Gitte McGloin, a Design Centre Enmore Alumnus.
